SHOWDOWN: Gbemisola Saraki Rallies late father’s allies behind Muazu, PDP -

Report has it that she was in the state recently to
confer with some elders of the PDP in the state, with a view to
forging a common front against the ruling All Progressives
Congress (APC) in kwara.
Other loyalists of the late Waziri of Ilorin, who also refused to
move with the former Governor to the APC include, Prof. Oba
Abdulraheem, Alhaji Rasheed Alada, Dr. LAK Jimoh, Alhaji Sodiq
Musa, Bar. Kunle Suleiman, Sen. Salman Ajadi, Hon. Bio Ibrahim
and a host of others.
But by way of a subtle confirmation of that our earlier report, an
amalgamation of Mrs. Saraki’s political support group in Kwara
state today declared its intent to ‘consolidate’ its massive
mobilisation effort for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and
its newly appointed Chairman, Dr. Adamu Muazu.
At a press conference addressed by Mallam Aliyu Abubakar
Ibrahim, under the auspices of Gbemisola Rukayat Saraki (GRS),
the Gbemi supporters, whose support base is spread across the
length and breathe of Kwara state, said the “current mobilization
began following the defection of a faction of the PDP, led by
Senator Bukola Saraki, a former Kwara State governor, to join
the All Progressive Congress (APC).”
The group further disclosed that the defection of Dr. Bukola
Saraki has been a ‘huge’ blessing to it as it has been harvesting
‘disenchanted’ loyalists of the former Governor, who incidentally
is also Sen. Gbemisola’s immediate blood brother.
Mallam Aliyu, who is also the Chairman of the Kwara state
chapter of a pressure group, The Kwara Democrats, further
revealed that several prominent APC chieftains in the state, who
were disappointed over the alleged ill-treatment they received in
the hands of the national leadership of the APC, have pitched
their tents with Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, who they see as the
‘rallying point’ of the PDP in Kwara state.
In his words, Mallam Aliyu stated that, “the GRS organisation
has a plethora of foot soldiers across Kwara State who were
recently given a marching order by Senator Gbemisola Saraki to
commence a statewide mobilization of support for President
Goodluck Jonathan through the Adamu Muazu-led PDP.
“The GRS organization, being one of the main backbones of PDP
in Kwara State, will do whatever it is required to strengthen the
party. We have a clear directive from GRS herself on the need to
build a formidable PDP along with other party leaders in the
state to provide unflinching support to President Goodluck
Jonathan. Of course, we know we cannot achieve that without
giving our utmost support to our new national chairman, Alhaji
Adamu Mu’azu. This is what we are doing. In the next few
weeks, Nigerians will witness a massive transformation of our
party in Kwara State. PDP remain the party to beat in Kwara and
GRS is a key factor in the party.”
