Dele Belgore’s Supporters Declare Support For APC

Youths, under the aegis of Mohammed Dele Belgore Solidarity Group, yesterday distanced themselves from the
decision of Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN) to dump the All Progressives Congress(APC) and join the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP). At a crowded news conference in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the youths declared that
they would not follow Belgore to the PDP.
Belgore had last Wednesday defected to the PDP, citing the alleged failure of the national leadership of the APC to
accept what he described as the peculiarity of the political situation in the state as well as their refusal to allow his
group control the structure of the party instead of the new entrants from the PDP.
But the leader of the youth group, Olaitan Obalowu, said that his group, with membership in 16 council areas of the
state are not happy that Belgore refused to stay in the APC. They alleged that his decision to defect to the PDP was
selfish and would not work for the betterment of the state. He said the group was the megaphone of Belgore’s
campaign in the 2011 election and its members were disappointed that their principal decided to dump the party at a
time progressives across the country have come together in the interest of Nigeria.
Speaking further, he said, “We condemn the defection coming at a time when Kwara was in high political competition
for development and we see the action as being informed by self centred ambition at the detriment of Kwarans and
the general interest of Nigerians.
