Lai Mohammed asks Original APC members to discourage ‘Oloye’ Slogan

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the fiery
spokesperson of the opposition All
Progressives Congress (APC) today
asked members of the legacy parties
that collapsed into the APC to
discourage the use of the slogan ‘Oloye’
by former Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) members who recently defected
into the APC in the state.
‘Oloye’ (chief) is a popular Yoruba
slogan used by supporters of late Dr.
Olusola Saraki to hail their political
leader. It was adopted as an appendage
of the PDP slogan, POWER, as a mark
of respect and popularity for the late
sage.
But supporters have refused to drop the
slogan, even after the demise of Dr.
Saraki early last year. They have
therefore imported it into the party
slogan of their new party, the APC,
which officially recognized slogan is
‘CHANGE’.
Speaking with party supporters who
thronged the Lai Mohammed Campaign
office (LAMCO) today opposite Winners
Chapel, Offa Garage, Ilorin, Alhaji
Mohammed said the ‘Oloye’ appellation
is a baggage the APC would love to do
away with.
Mohammed, who was calming members
of the party who protested the adoption
of the slogan during local party
meetings by former PDP members,
stated that since the ‘Oloye’ slogan
does not form part of the official slogan
of the APC, then it should be dropped
forthwith. He asked members to ‘do
everything possible to ensure that the
adoption of the slogan is discouraged…”
However, Mr. Mohammed promised
party faithful that he would raise the
issue with the Dr. Bukola Saraki, being
the leader of the PDP breakaway
faction of the APC in the state.
E-Kwara’s correspondent reports that
the APC spokesperson arrived Ilorin
from Lagos around 10:45am today
aboard an Arik aircraft. He is in the
state to attend the inauguration of the
Party’s interim executive committee, the
State Harmonization Committee (SHC),
which is slated for tomorrow.
Mr. Lai Mohammed, Dr. Bukola Saraki,
Gov. Abdulfatai Ahmed and his deputy,
Rt. Hon Rasak Atunwa and twenty eight
others are members of the APC interim
committee in the state.
