Obesere arrested for alleged rape
Popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, popularly
known as Obesere, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos State
for allegedly raping a 29-year-old business woman, Miss Olanike
Olaiya in his Okota residence, Lagos.
The victim, who took the matter to the Police, also narrated her
ordeal in the hands of the musician whose shows generally
fascinate society women.
According to Olaiya, a National Diploma graduate of business
administration from Ibadan Polytechnic, “I got to know Obesere
through one of my friends, Mrs Bola Okoro. She told me that
Obesere would assist me in my business.
“I deal in office equipment and when I contacted Obesere, he asked
me to meet him in his family house at Okota. When I met him, I
introduced my business to him and he promised to connect me to
some of his friends in Dubai who would sell goods to me on credit.
“After the discussion, he started demanding for sex and I refused
and when I wanted to leave, he insisted I should sleep over in his
house because it was late and he claimed that it was dangerous to
go out late in the night in his area.
“I thought he was a responsible man and I decided to sleep over,
but at the dead of the night, he came into the room where I slept
and pounced on me.
“He raped me and afterwards inserted a ring he wore into my
private part and I started bleeding. He hurriedly left me in the room
saying he had an appointment to fulfil.
“I could not bear the trauma and the bleeding and I reported the
matter to the police.”
Vanguard gathered that Obesere was first arrested last Wednesday
by the Police at Isolo Police Division, where Olaiya reported the
matter. He was subsequently released on administrative bail.
He was later re-arrested on Monday, when medical examination
conducted on Olaiya revealed that she was actually raped and the
Divisional Police Officer, Isolo, Adamu Ibrahim, was said to have
ordered the transfer of the matter to State Criminal Investigation
Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
Sources disclosed that Obesere’s arrest was made possible through
a warrant of arrest issued by the Chief Magistrate of Isolo
Magistrate Court, Mrs Kike Bukola Ayeye, as he had declined to
honour several police invitations sent to his house at Johnson
Famiye Street, Canal Estate, Ago, Okota.
We are lovers — Obesere
Police sources also said Obesere in his statement denied ever
raping Olaiya, rather he claimed she was his lover and they made
love when she visited him.
The source added that Obesere claimed he asked her to go to a
private hospital for treatment when she complained that she was
bleeding, but he was surprised when she reported to the police that
she was raped.

Jonathan’s visit: APC Planning to Foment Trouble in Kwara, Police Commissioner
The Kwara state Police Command has
responded sharply to the allegations of
the Kwara state chapter of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) that the
police was intimidating its members,
describing the APC as trouble makers
who out to sabotage the visit of
President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Police Commissioner, Mr. Ambrose
Aisabo, who personally addressed the
media yesterday to underscore the
importance attached to the allegations,
disclosed that the command had
intelligence information that the APC
was, among others, planning to deface
the posters and billboards of President
Jonathan ahead of his visit to Kwara
state.
“We had information that the APC was
planning to print several posters and
use them to deface that of
Mr .President and we went there and
indeed we saw thousands of posters
that had been printed. We impounded
them but the people explained to us
that they had no plan of defacing the
posters of Mr. President.”
“I warned them and allowed them to go
with their posters. I am not against
anyone pasting posters but I am
against it when people deface the
posters of others; there is enough space
for everybody.”
Infinity Links recalls that the APC has
raised an alarm yesterday that its
members were being arrested by the
police in the state, insisting that it is a
means at intimidating its members to
the advantage of the PDP in the state.
It will also be recalled that the PDP in
the state, through its spokesperson,
Mallam Al-Hassan Mohammed, alleged
that the APC was planning to
orchestrate mayhem during the visit of
Mr. Jonathan, by sponsoring hoodlums,
decked in PDP t-shirts, to embarrass
the visiting President and his
entourage. As grave as the allegation,
the APC has, till the time of filing this
report, not responded to same.

Ashiru, PDP Chieftain, Seeks Abolition of State/LG Account
A chieftain of the Peoples'
Democratic Party (PDP) in Offa, Kwara, Mr Lola Ashiru, has called for
the abolition of state and local government joint account.
Ashiru, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the defunct Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011, made the call on Thursday in
Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said local government areas would not develop unless state and
local government joint account was abolished.
While decrying the deplorable state of local government areas in the
country, Ashiru attributed the reason to the state/local government
account.
He cited Offa as one of the local government areas in the state that
had challenges of development in terms of infrastructure.
Ashiru, an architect, was of the view that each local government
should manage funds accruing to it from the Federation Account.
"If local governments were given their full allocation from the
Federation Account, development would be rapid as they would have
enough funds to execute projects.
"Everything has value and there is value in joint account, but the way
it is allocated and utilised is not the best of practice.
"If I have joint account with you, what it means is that it is my
account, it is your account and I will participate in the running of that
account," he added.
Ashiru also criticised the way local governments were being operated
in the country.
"Local governments are supposed to be an important arm of
government but unfortunately in Nigeria, we have diminished it into a
non-functional arm of government," he said. (NAN)

Sports Minister is APC Card Carrying Member
Investigations have unearthed a case of double-faced loyalty by the
current Minister of Sports and member of the President Goodluck
Jonathan’s cabinet, Bolaji Abdullahi. In the last one year, the
Honourable Minister, who was a former Commissioner in the Bukola
Saraki Administration in Kwara State wines with Jonathan’s Peoples
Democratic Party-led federal government in Abuja where he draws
salary and other emoluments in the morning and in the night he dines
with the All Progressives Congress, APC where his mentor, Senator
Saraki is a leader.
Although President Jonathan is said to be aware of this ugly
development following security reports, political watchers however
express dismay over the continued retention of the minister in the
Federal Executive Council.
In his home state Kwara for instance, Abdullahi is alleged to have
hosted several meetings of the APC in his house, but ignores
attending any meeting called by the state chapter of the PDP.
Confirming the allegation, two Ministers on the same cabinet told
Nigerian Pilot at separate interviews last weekend that the matter has
become public knowledge even among the members of the FEC.
In fact, one of the serving ministers wondered why President Jonathan
still retained Abdullahi in his cabinet when according to him; security
reports had indicted Abdullahi of what he called “double dealing,
double loyalty and unpatrioticism to the person and office of the
President”.
Apparently reacting to a recent story on the Minister of Trade and
Investment Dr. Olusegun Aganga by Nigerian Pilot, the Minister(who
pleaded anonymity) said thus: “ I wonder why you journalists,
especially your paper did not include the minister from Kwara in
charge of Sports among the moles in this administration”.
Prodded further, he said “it is common knowledge among EXCO
members that Bolaji is PDP in the day time, APC at night. He does
not openly identify with anything PDP is doing, well for obvious
reasons”, he said.
The minister’s views were corroborated by that of another key
minister from the North-East Zone who said his advice to Abdullahi
to desist from his antics failed on deaf ears.
In a related development, the sports minister has come under serious
criticisms by members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP
in the national as well as his native Kwara state chapter of the party
for alleged disloyalty and anti-party activities.
According to scores of PDP officials that volunteered to speak with
Nigerian Pilot in Abuja and Ilorin last weekend, the minister, who was
appointed into President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet in 2010,
courtesy of recommendation by erstwhile PDP governor of Kwara
state and current chieftain of opposition APC, Senator Bukola Saraki
has continued to stay away from every party functions claiming that
he is apolitical.
“In Ilorin where one of his wives lives, the minister never identifies
with PDP; in Ibadan where another of his wives lives, the same is the
case. Even in Abuja, he does not relate to PDP people” a member of
the PDP NWC said.
In his reaction, PDP Spokesperson in Kwara State, Mohammed
Mariam Alhassan, said since the party embarked on its activities in
recent times, other stakeholders serving at the federal government
have been registering their presence and support.
“Surprisingly, the Minister for Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has
never for once made his attention felt not to talk of participating in
our activities. Although, he became a Minister of the Federal Republic
under PDP-led government and the majority of the state apparatus
have since defected to APC, we still believe strongly that as a serving
minister he should be more interested in the realisation of the
transformation agenda of Mr. President.
“As for us in Kwara PDP, we don’t have anything against him, we
rather advise him to make his presence and attention felt at the state
level too as he is doing at the federal level.”
Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of Kwara APC, Alhaji Sulymon
Buhari, described the allegation as a mere attempt to tarnish the
image of the Sports Minister.
He disclosed that, “Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has said it on many
occasions that he is not a politician. I have never seen him in any
political gathering or stakeholder’s forum in Kwara state even before
the division of the PDP” he said.
Efforts made to get the Honourable Minister’s reaction proved
abortive, but his Special Adviser Media, Mr. Julius Ogunro declined
comments when asked to comment on the allegation. The telephone
interview went thus: “Good afternoon. I’m I speaking with Mr. Julis
Ogunro, S.A.Media to Hon. Minister of Sports?” “Yes”.
I am a reporter with the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper. Please can you
respond to the allegation that your boss the Hon Minister of Sports
has double loyalty, one to President Jonathan and the PDP and
second to Senator Saraki and the APC?” He kept quiet for some time
and then cut off the call. This happened on two different occasions on
his GSM number 08023648629.

PDP Youths Mount Party’s Billboard in Bukola Saraki Ancestral Home
Unfazed by the likely backlash of their action, some Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Agbaji, the ancestral home of Dr.
Bukola Saraki, last week unveiled a mini billboard announcing the
presence of the PDP in the area.
Led by Mr. Hammed Solagberu, a youth leader in Ajikobi ward of the
Sarakis, the PDP youths insisted that the defection of Mr. Saraki
notwithstanding, the PDP is still relevant and strong in the area.
At the unveiling of the billboard, various youth leaders taunted Mr.
Saraki and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), describing
the forthcoming 2015 elections of the APC terminal date in the state.
Agbaji is a sprawling settle in Ajikobi ward of Ilorin west local
government area of Kwara state, comprising of 11 communities. They
are Manjo, Maiye, Opeloyeru, Singinni, Agoro, Kejebu, Adara,
Babasare, Aburo, Imam and Saura.

Belgore's Defection Will Not Affect APC - Abubakar Bukola Saraki
Former Governor of
Kwara State and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial
District, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in this interview, speaks on the recent
defections in the state but says they pose no threat to APC. Excerpts:
What's your position on the suspension of the CBN Governor?
I was reading in the papers that the Senate has taken a position on
the issue. First of all I want to say that the Senate has not at any time
debated the issue and I think the position as stated by Senator
Abaribe must be his personal opinion. I am sure by the time the
Senate comes back, we would look at the issue.
With my own knowledge of the CBN Act and the relevant section
which I have gone through, there is no part of that Act that supports
the action taken by the President whether you call it suspension or
removal or removal/suspension. It is tantamount to removal at the
end of the day and the Act does not say that.
And I think this kind of thing to me is not about Sanusi, it is even
more about the new governor who is coming in. Can that governor
really say that his tenure is five years? There can be a new President
tomorrow down the line; he would say, "In 2014, this is what
happened".
The PDP people are taking the 2015 election very serious and Kwara
seems to be a target. On Sunday PDP stakeholders stormed Ilorin for
a rally, do you see it as a threat?
I thought there are rules guiding party rallies at this time. Well, good
luck to them. Look, as I said maybe it is a form of reaction to the
success of our registration that is giving them jitters. As you all know
we have finished our registration and the figure that we have had is
over 380, 000 which is not even the final figure. Like I said to you
those of you who have been here in 2011 election know how Governor
Abdulfatah Ahmed won election with about 250 something thousand.
If today, we are registering card-carrying members of 380 something
thousand, you can see that if I was in the other side too, I would be
feeling jittery and I would be organising rally that really does not
mean anything. Let them go and register their members instead of
rally; let them go and do registration and let's see how many people
they have. They too know at the end of the day that they do not have
the support, a party that does not have any form of cohesion. I think
all these are just actions being taken to try and boost their party's
image.
But the people of Kwara have spoken last week when we did the APC
registration. And I want to seize this opportunity to thank the people
of Kwara for registering for APC in the short period of time we took
the decision to move to the party in less than four or three months.
That we can gather this kind of mobilization in three months shows
the acceptability, it shows people believe in us and we believe in them.
I think the PDP should better put their resources in other states,
Kwara is not an area they would be able to do much.
People look at it as if you are the target of the Presidency, why do
you think this is so?
One has decided to make a personal sacrifice in standing for what I
believe in. I've said many a times that some of the things I believe in
are not personal. I gave example the other day that even when
President Yar'Adua of blessed memory was there and people know
how I was close to him, when he was doing something that was wrong
on the issue of the agric loan, I stood up and said this must stop. If I
believe something was not right, it is not an attack, I believe it is to
help everybody. But unfortunately there are those that believe once
you say things that are not good, they misconstrued it to say it is
personal. So I think it is some people that give that kind of
impression. All I know is that I'll continue to stand and believe in what
I believe is right and what I believe is good for my people. It is the
sacrifices you make when you are in this kind of position. That's why
today again, I am talking about the issue of CBN Governor. It has
nothing to do with President, it has nothing to do with Sanusi. The
President must leave one day and Sanusi too must leave but the
persons coming next and those coming after... There was a reason
why we passed those laws, to ensure the independence of CBN. So
some of these issues that are crucial to the development of our
country, I would stick to them. I know that yes it makes one a subject
of attack. But if that is the sacrifice one has to make so be it for a
better Kwara and for a better Nigeria.
There are those you worked together in 2011 that are now remaining
in PDP and just recently some APC chieftains dumped the party for
the PDP, don't you think the PDP is gaining a formidable opposition
now?
Well, I don't know how you define formidable and I will tell you why. If
you look at the last election, PDP came first with 251, 000 votes
followed by ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria). Now if you agree that
at least majority of ACN is now in APC, majority of PDP is now in
APC, when you now combine these together, you can't tell me that the
other side has become formidable, I don't know where you got your
calculation. I am sure you are referring to people like Dele Belgore.
We made all our efforts; even me personally I drove myself to his
house to show that, look, come on board and let's work together in
the interest of the state, we are both of similar gene. But everybody
must take his political decision. He has taken his own political
decision to go to PDP. And I said to him, "I know PDP more than you
do".
People would meet beyond politics, I wish him all the best but you
know, I know in that environment where you have about five or six
different people with different agenda, even coming together is going
to be a challenge. Those are the experiences you learn in politics. But
as I said I think the word, "formidable" is what has happened with the
emergence of APC and that is why you are seeing it in the number.
And talking about people who used to be with us, politics sometimes
is local. I am sure who you are talking about is one of our former
commissioners or members of House of Assembly that have decided
to remain in PDP. Again politics is local, you see one of the things we
have found out is that a lot of the complaints we have seen in most
of the local governments and wards is that people are complaining
that people have been in government for a long time and were being
circulated. Even when I was the governor, I could remember people
were complaining that these people have been in government for eight
years. That under Baba Waziri (late Dr. Olusola Saraki), they were
there, under me they were there and what we did last time with the
cabinet reshuffle was that a lot of young people who have never seen
political appointments but who are grassroots mobilizers have now
been empowered to hold positions whether at council level, SA level
and it has changed the dynamics.
Now some people who see themselves as they must be there feel
threatened by that but we believe that the party is now opening up
and like I keep on saying more people are participating in politics and
we must accommodate them. So I don't hold any regret if what we are
doing is to bring more people on board and try to open it so that
more people feel a sense of belonging.
In the process, definitely one or two people will feel aggrieved. But I
want to advise some of them that look, at the end of the day, they are
best in the party they have been all along and we don't have any
doubt on our minds that we are as strong and even stronger based on
the permutation.
Are you not reaching out to them all along to bring them back?
We are doing that. Some of them at the beginning didn't understand
it, some thought that this is just a personal matter in Kwara, but as
you can see the country as a whole is moving towards a change. So,
that is going on. There are those we are still engaging and talking to.
There are some for example who have never been with us in the past,
they have said they are going to stay in APC and work with us. There
are those who stayed in PDP with some expectations, by the time
those expectations are not coming in, you know what that means.
That's why we have set up reconciliation committee that they should
come back quickly because if it is about winning election, this is the
machine that wins election and so they should come back as soon as
possible. So we set up a reconciliation committee to invite them and
talk to some of them.

Kwara APC to Police: Stop PDP thugs from burning Kwara
The Kwara State
chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has condemned the
violence and disruption of business activities perpetrated by PDP
thugs in the State on Monday describing it as war on the people of
Kwara State.
We condemn the violence, disruption of business activities and
destruction of properties in Post Office, Taiwo Isale, Niger Road, Unity
Road and other areas of the State by PDP thugs. PDP has declared
war on the people of the State.
According to the information at our disposal, this strike actions are
due to the failure of the PDP Leadership to fulfil promises made to the
thugs that were mobilized to its Sunday rally, a rally that is now
tagged huge disappointment in the State.
The frustration of the opposition PDP has led to declaration of war on
the people of the State. If this violent trend is not arrested - it is
capable of turning the state to a war-ridden zone.
Having seen that it can not attain power through the ballots, the PDP
has resulted to usage of violence. We call on the Police Command to
arrest the PDP thugs and their Leaders while introducing proactive
measures to curtail attacks by the PDP on APC members and
Kwarans
We encourage our members to be peaceful in the face of intimidation.
The Administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed will continue to
exercise its powers to ensure peaceful co-existence and security in
the State.
Alhaji Sulymon Buhari,
Interim Publicity Secretary, APC, Kwara State.
DISCOVERY: Finger Computer Reads Books Aloud
There is no shortage of audiovisual software and Braille scanners
for the visually impaired. In many ways, such technology allows
people to overcome their visual disabilities and consume media and
books like anyone else. But many of these systems aren’t very
mobile, and in the end, they require a series of multiple steps to
translate text into audio.
Helping to close that gap is the FingerReader, developed by MIT
Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces Group. The prototype is a finger-
mounted computer that reads text aloud as users run their finger
across each word. Here’s how researchers describe it :
The FingerReader is a wearable device that assists in reading
printed text. It is a tool both for visually impaired people that require
help with accessing printed text, as well as an aid for language
translation. Wearers scan a text line with their finger and receive an
audio feedback of the words and a haptic feedback of the layout:
start and end of line, new line, and other cues. The FingerReader
algorithm knows to detect and give feedback when the user veers
away from the baseline of the text, and helps them maintain a
straight scanning motion within the line.
Jonathan, Mu'azu visit Kwara next Monday
Prsident Goodluck Jonathan
and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Adamu Mu’azu, will be in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Monday, March 3, to
assess the state of the party in the area.
Kwara PDP Caretaker Chairman, Solomon Edoga, said at a rally in
Ilorin yesterday that Jonathan has favoured Kwarans with his recent
appointments, noting that the PDP could not afford to lose the state
to the opposition irrespective of those who might have left the party.
Among the top members of the party in the state that addressed the
supporters was the Special Adviser to the President on National
Assembly, Makanjuola Ajadi, who said that political servitude in
Kwara was over, and assured the state of more political appointments
that would empower them.
For the Chairman of Federal Character Commission (FCC), Prof.
Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, those presently in PDP in Kwara are the
true lovers of democracy and the state, while Gbemisola Saraki
believes that the PDP population in the state is strong enough to
unseat the incumbent government.
Lola Ashiru, Gbemisola Saraki & Co Join Hands, Vow to Chase out APC from Kwara.
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday stood with one voice declaring the All Progressives Congress
(APC) in Kwara state as 'dead on arrival'. The leaders, who arrived in a long convoy amidst tight security said this is
the time to deal decisively with 'looters' and 'plunderers' of Kwara state.
The leaders, who addressed the mammoth crowd separately, insisted that Kwara must be "relieved of the shackles of
Dr. Bukola Saraki and his puppet Governor, Mr. Abdulfatai Ahmed...." The assertion was made by Barrister Kunle
Suleiman, a frontline political activist and pioneer Chairman of the PDP in the state.

SSS Detains, Seizes Sanusi's Passport
Officials of the State Security Service, SSS, have seized the travelling documents of suspended Governor of the Central
Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, shortly after he arrived Lagos from Niger, where he had gone to attend a
meeting of governors of central banks in the West African sub-region.
Shortly after his plane landed at the ExecuJet Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, he
was accosted by plain clothe operatives who detained him briefly and insisted he must surrender his passport.
They also insisted that he would not be allowed to leave the airport until the Lagos state director of the SSS arrives.
But after a while, the operatives had a change of heart after communicating with their superiors. The CBN governor
was allowed to leave but only after his passport was confiscated. PREMIUM TIMES had earlier exclusively reported
the plans to arrest Mr. Sanusi on his return to the country from neighbouring Niger.
The governor was suspended in absentia, while attending a three-day meeting of the West African Central Bank
Governors.
The embattled governor had himself became aware of the plan to arrest him, compelling him to change his travel
plans. He landed in Lagos instead of Abuja.
In Lagos, Mr. Sanusi’s associates and friends, led by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai,
were on hand to receive him at the airport.
They drove out of the airport in a convoy heading towards Ikoyi. A member of the delegation said Mr. Sanusi was
heading to a friend’s place to relax.
Earlier today, the President ordered the immediate suspension of Mr. Sanusi from office, saying his tenure had been
characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct inconsistent with the administration’s vision
of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and
financial discipline.
However, many Nigerians believe the CBN governor was axed because he exposed the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC, as an harbinger of corruption and financial mismanagement, diverting huge federal revenues
accruing to the nation from the sale of crude oil. Mr. Sanusi says as much as $20 billion oil money is missing.
The President, in a statement by Reuben Abati, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, ordered the Central Bank
governor to hand over to the most senior Deputy Governor of the bank, Mrs. Alade who will serve as Acting Governor
until the conclusion of ongoing investigations into alleged breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the
Central Bank.

Bilkisu Tinuola Gambari, a perennial contestant and controversial
politician has dismissed allegations of her defection saying her
return to the PDP was without any regrets.
Gambari explained yesterday in Ilorin that she had always been a
staunch supporter of the right and freedom to vote and be voted
for as opposed to the imposition of ‘annointed’ candidates by a
handfull of individuals without due process or consultations with
relevant stakeholders, including the electorate.
“The present national leadership of the PDP has assured that
there will be no undemocratic practices such as the imposition of
candidates; that due process will be followed so that every
eligible and willing member will have equal opportunity to
contest at the party’s primary elections. Therefore, with the firm
assurances of adherence to standard democratic practices, we
are fully on ground and at home in the PDP,” she declared.
Although Gambari had contested the 2010 Kwara Central

of Abuja and Social Media politicians who ignore the reality that

While promising to participate fully in the forthcoming

Dele Belgore’s Supporters Declare Support For APC
Youths, under the aegis of Mohammed Dele Belgore Solidarity Group, yesterday distanced themselves from the
decision of Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN) to dump the All Progressives Congress(APC) and join the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP). At a crowded news conference in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the youths declared that
they would not follow Belgore to the PDP.
Belgore had last Wednesday defected to the PDP, citing the alleged failure of the national leadership of the APC to
accept what he described as the peculiarity of the political situation in the state as well as their refusal to allow his
group control the structure of the party instead of the new entrants from the PDP.
But the leader of the youth group, Olaitan Obalowu, said that his group, with membership in 16 council areas of the
state are not happy that Belgore refused to stay in the APC. They alleged that his decision to defect to the PDP was
selfish and would not work for the betterment of the state. He said the group was the megaphone of Belgore’s
campaign in the 2011 election and its members were disappointed that their principal decided to dump the party at a
time progressives across the country have come together in the interest of Nigeria.
Speaking further, he said, “We condemn the defection coming at a time when Kwara was in high political competition
for development and we see the action as being informed by self centred ambition at the detriment of Kwarans and
the general interest of Nigerians.

Kwara APC : Belgore is a victim of political naivety.
The Kwara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has
dismissed the statement credited to Mr Dele Belgore, that the APC will
soon disintegrate as "unrealistic wish informed by Self –
Centeredness and Political naivety".
The long-suffering of nigerians and misrule of the PDP led Federal
government are components of Why the APC is in existence therefore
issue of disintegration is unfounded. Relentlessly, we shall ensure
purposeful leadership and better quality of life for nigerians.
Mr Belgore alleged APC of "undemocratic tendencies", he can not
claim to know the PDP more than the founding fathers that have since
abandoned the party for its undemocratic practices and
mismanagement of the country, to our party mainly to salvage
Nigeria. Nigerians need to know that Mr Belgore is not a member of
PDP today due to assumed undemocratic tendencies in APC but for
the resolve of our party to disengage all selfish interests including
his. The question arise: Is he the only leader of the legacy parties?
Why is he alone on the allegation of undemocratic tendencies in
Kwara APC? He failed to see patriotic needs to relinquish personal
interests and join other nigerians to collectively salvage Nigeria from
the PDP having destroyed and divided the country across different
ethnic and religious folds.
It betrays logic for Mr Belgore to think he can secure the "freedom" of
kwarans under PDP, a party that has held nigerians hostage and
arrested the development of the Country for years. Kwarans are free –
the acceptability of the just concluded APC membership registration is
an attestation.
Mr Belgore in an interview published by The Punch on 16th of March,
2013 declared: "APC is about putting the country first, President
Jonathan lacks ability to solve nigeria’s problems and PDP has
destroyed the country through abuse of power, intimidation and
unholy alliances with institutions that should check it".
Nigerians need information on developments between 16th of March,
2013 and Now. During this period, the PDP led federal government
has coordinated the stealing or missing of more billion dollars than
nigerians have suffered from the PDP government in the past. Mr
Belgore should tell kwarans and Nigerians how much he got from our
stolen wealth?
We assure our members and supporters that the movement of Mr
Belgore from defunct ACN to the sinking PDP has no alteration on the
election winning machinery of APC has presently constituted in Kwara

The warning came after Mr. Museveni said he would sign the bill into
law, following an explanation by medical experts that homosexuality
is not genetic.
The U.S president said “once the anti-homosexuality bill in Uganda

in his room. Jerome’s mother told Huzler reporters
“1 hour passed since I had called him down for
lunch, Jerome was the kind of boy to steal food
off your plate when you were not looking, i knew
something was wrong when he didn’t come down
to eat, he was a great kid” she finished as she
began to cry.
Police arrived at the home about an hour after Ms. Carpenter called
them. Officer Dean Marrow told Huzler reporters what they saw when
they opened Jerome’s bedroom door.
“The young man was on his bed… his pen*s was
detached from his body, it must have been so
intense it just came off his body, we found his
pen*s gripped in his left hand so tightly we
couldn’t get it out, it was tragic”.

Belgore’s defection, blessing to APC – Balogun Fulani
The interim chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Hon. Ishola Balogun Fulani has described
the defection of the former gubernatorial candidate on the platform of APC in the state, Lawyer Dele Belgore to
Peoples Democratic party (PDP), as a blessing to the APC in the state.Balogun Fulani also revealed that over 374400
Kwarans had registered during thejust concluded APC registration exercise, saying that APC is the fastest growing
party in Africa. The chairman disclosed this Wednesday inIlorin during an exclusive interview with The Herald,
affirming that it was even better for Belgore to remain with APC where there is hope for him than going to the
crumbling party, PDP.“It is a blessing to APC because we believethat if you want change and you want to help the
people to get to the desired destination through provision of more dividends of democracy it is APC.“But he is now
defecting to PDP, a crumbling party that we know! Well, I wish him well but I know he may come back to APC
because he is going to line up there because there are people that are more experienced than him in the remnant of
PDP, which means he will be a back bencher” he added.Speaking on the just concluded APC registration exercise,
Balogun Fulani said the turn out of people during the exercise was very encouraging.“I can tell you that we have
registered more than 200 people in each of the polling units. In some cases we registered more than 300 while some
units recorded 400. That is to show the acceptability of our party in Kwara State.“We have 1,872 polling units in
Kwara State. If we multiply the initial 100 it amounts to 187200. With the trend of things, we have registered more
than 200 members and if we multiply 1,872 by 200 itis going to be 374400 which means we have registered more
than that. That is to tell you that Insha Allah come 2015 APC will win in Kwara State.Reacting to Senator Gbemisola
Saraki’s recent rally in Ilorin, the state APC interim chairman in the state said the idea of each leader in the remnant
of PDP conducted rally separately in different locations shows that the party lacks agreement and cohesion. The act
organizing rally separately clearly shows that there is no cohesion, no agreement within the hierarchy of PDP as at
now. Everybody has his own faction. Professor Oba has his own faction, Senator Gbemisola has her own faction,
Alabi Yekini at the same time was holding his rally at Ojoku. Also Sera Jibril held her own the previous day before
others held their own, then LAK Jimoh has his own faction. That is to show that there is no agreement within the
people that made up the remnants of PDP today, everybody is on his own.On APC comment over the new
Commissioner of Police in the state, Balogun Fulani admitted that it was too early to judge the man, saying that what
APC was saying is just an advice for him totreat everybody equally.“Actually it is too early to judge the new
CPbecause we learned that he is a complete gentle man. What we are just saying is that we are giving him an advice
that Kwara State is a peace loving state, that is why we are being called State of Harmony. We don’t want him to
come and ‘Mbunize’ us here. When I say ‘Mbunize’ that is what Mbu did while he was in Rivers State, Kwara State is
different from Rivers state” he advised. The chairman therefore thanked people of the state for coming out in large
number toshow their love and affection to the fastestgrowing party in Africa, APC , pointing out that their coming out
for the exercise clearly shows the outright acceptability of APC in the state.“We are very grateful to all our teeming
population that came out to register just the first day the registration started. Majority of the polling units completed
their 100 members that very day, that attests to our saying that we are the fastest growing party in Africa.” Our people
are known for keeping peace and I want to advise them again to keep peace because when there is peace there is
going to be progress and development” he added.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME
With deep appreciation I step forward to receive this honorary degree from this respected institution, the Njala
University. The very institution that topped the University of Sierra Leone in the 2013 ranking of African Universities
and now a pride to this noble country and her people.
It is appropriate that I step forward to receive this degree because that is exactly what Njala University and what
Sierra Leone have done. You have stepped forward.
From the ash and dust of war, you have stepped forward. A small nation engulfed by such a big war. You persevered,
defying the odds and resurrecting and steering yourselves toward hope and peace. As a nation, you have stepped
forward. You, as individuals, have stepped forward.
After seeing what you have done in facing down the steep odds and overcoming the harsh challenge of war, what
more could I do but join you by stepping forward to accept this degree.
As such, our roles today should be reversed. You called me forth to honor me. I accepted your invitation but came
here not for the purpose you think. I came here not to receive an honor but, in my own humble way, that I may honor
what you have done and what you symbolize to the West African sub-region.
Sierra Leone, no nation, no people ought to have suffered as you have. You teetered on the brink of extinction. You
came as close as any nation would dare to the gates of Hell.
Yet with some help from your friends, you averted disaster when disaster seemed inevitable and permanent. You held
fast to a thin ray of hope until it grew to fill the sky above the nation. Where there was nothing but breakage and
destruction now is learning and the building of new buildings, new lives and new dreams.
A new nation has risen from the old. Yes, scars and wounds from the battle are there but the spirit is a different one.
It directs us toward a better future and away from the bleak past.
The worst has passed. The best is yet to come.
This is lesson you teach the rest of West Africa. Social tranquility and peace are precious things not to be taken for
granted. Take them for granted and they just may be taken from you by virtue of your own negligence.
We ignore these lessons at our peril.
Leadership and those in government are the mind of a nation. Women constitute the heart of the nation and men the
backbone. But it is the youth who are the muscle, limbs and hands of a country. Leave the youth idle, leave the youth
hopeless, leave them destitute, then you leave a nation at the mercy of a merciless fate. For its muscles, limbs and
hands will atrophy or begin to work against it.
No nation can attain stability, let alone greatness, unless it provides productive work and opportunity to its young. If
not, the young will be led astray and with them shall go not only the future but the present.
This is why I am so committed to youth education and employment. As a leader, I would be guilty of gross dereliction
of duty if I did not place a high priority on the learning and labor of our youth. To cast you to the winds of unguided
fate is to cast a ticking bomb toward the rest of the nation. Njala University with her student population is an
inspiration. Founded in 1964 and fifty years hence, it remains a fountain of knowledge. Through its six established
schools; School of Education, Community Health Services, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences and
School of Technology, Njala University continues to dispense knowledge and equip present and future leaders. And
just like, the country Sierra Leone, it weathered the storms of war, absolved the carnage and deadly mortar of battle to
hold forth the torch of education.
What I see here encourages me. What I see beginning to evolve in this great country under the competent leadership
of Ernest Bai Koroma. His commitment to change and good governance excites me. Old ways crumble. Old things
pass away. Something new approaches. Oh yes, the best is yet to come!
In Nigeria, a unique political movement is afoot and gains traction. Joining other progressive leaders, I recently helped
establish the All Progressives Congress (APC). This is more than a political party or organization. It is a mission, a
calling forth of the nation to realize its better self.
We realized that if Nigeria continues as is, it would soon collide into the barrier of its internal contradictions. A land
of vast wealth, yet vast penury. A people of great talent and energy, but also of despair and unproductivity born of
their jobless poverty. A land that exports the raw material that helps fuel, electrify and lubricates the global economy
but one that lives more in darkness than in light.
We formed the APC so Nigerians from all walks of life and social station might gather under one tent to develop the
nation on the basis of equity and shared prosperity. What we seek is a fair social compact sp that we may avoid
social calamity.
A core element of our mission is to make all levels of education, from primary to university level, accessible to all
people, regardless of economic circumstance. To survive in the modern economy, education is a must. As such,
responsible leadership must view education as a public right and no longer a luxury to be enjoyed only by those with
the money to purchase it for themselves. Government must help financially those who can’t help themselves in this
essential regard.
For example, we advocate a liberal student aid and loan program so that able but poor students are not denied their
dream of a university education. Under our program, young people will also receive technical and vocational training
for jobs and opportunities that actually exist in the economy instead of just receiving classroom instruction for things
that only exist in the textbook.
Moreover, we seek a jobs program whereby government works in tandem with the private sector to provide meaningful
work experience, mentoring as well as temporary and permanent employment for various classes of youths.
We aim not to train and educate young people into joblessness and despair but to help them realize their finest
aspirations by becoming able, productive members of society who can fend for themselves and earn livelihoods
allowing them to establish families and homes of their own.
We have this dream, we move toward this goal. I tell you the best is yet to come. Moreover, we seek this
improvement not just for Nigeria but for the entire sub-region.
As the most populous nation and largest economy in the sub-region, Nigeria has the singular responsibility to
generate economic activity that not only sparks growth internally but also catalyzes development in the sub-region.
West African economies still too closely adhere to colonial patterns of trade and commerce. Our economies interact
with the outside world more so than they do with themselves. We must end this. An economy with poor trade with its
neighbor is a poor economy. Maintaining these patterns of trade means our economies stay mired in the lower rungs
of the global division of labor. We export raw material on the cheap and import manufactured goods at dear costs.
The industrialization of the sub-region and vast number jobs such activity would unleash remain a dream deferred
and prosperity delayed. It is high time we did for ourselves what other parts of the world have done to help
themselves.
We are committed to promoting sub-regional industrialization and manufacturing that will bring new jobs to our
increasingly urbanized populations. We espouse reform that enhances the quality and quantity of internal trade among
West African states so that we may become our brothers‘ keeper, thus guaranteeing each other a better, more diverse
economy.
Unless we do this, we would have turned our backs on our own prosperity and development. Unless we do this, we
would continue to work more for the benefit of foreign interests than for ourselves.
I have worked too hard and long for the progress of our people to countenance such a broken outcome. We must
reform ourselves so that we can fully occupy the destiny our people deserve.
In other words: THE BEST IS YET TO COME AND THAT BEST WILL COME FROM YOU. FROM ME. FROM ALL OF US.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
