The Kwara state Police Command has
responded sharply to the allegations of
the Kwara state chapter of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) that the
police was intimidating its members,
describing the APC as trouble makers
who out to sabotage the visit of
President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Police Commissioner, Mr. Ambrose
Aisabo, who personally addressed the
media yesterday to underscore the
importance attached to the allegations,
disclosed that the command had
intelligence information that the APC
was, among others, planning to deface
the posters and billboards of President
Jonathan ahead of his visit to Kwara
state.
“We had information that the APC was
planning to print several posters and
use them to deface that of
Mr .President and we went there and
indeed we saw thousands of posters
that had been printed. We impounded
them but the people explained to us
that they had no plan of defacing the
posters of Mr. President.”
“I warned them and allowed them to go
with their posters. I am not against
anyone pasting posters but I am
against it when people deface the
posters of others; there is enough space
for everybody.”
Infinity Links recalls that the APC has
raised an alarm yesterday that its
members were being arrested by the
police in the state, insisting that it is a
means at intimidating its members to
the advantage of the PDP in the state.
It will also be recalled that the PDP in
the state, through its spokesperson,
Mallam Al-Hassan Mohammed, alleged
that the APC was planning to
orchestrate mayhem during the visit of
Mr. Jonathan, by sponsoring hoodlums,
decked in PDP t-shirts, to embarrass
the visiting President and his
entourage. As grave as the allegation,
the APC has, till the time of filing this
report, not responded to same.
